Essential construction work near to the emergency department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will begin this week.

The work will start on Friday and last until Sunday and will include the relocation of the modular building at the front of the emergency department.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust said there may be some temporary changes to access routes and parking but all hospital services remained open and operating as normal.

The building would be relocated near the new ward 38 and 39, so refurbishment and remodelling of the emergency department to create a dedicated children's emergency care area could continue, the trust said.

A major redevelopment is currently under way at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, as part of a major expansion of the site due to finish in 2028.

The full emergency department redevelopment is scheduled to end in 2027, and is part of a multimillion-pound, four-storey expansion.

Patients and visitors arriving to the emergency department over the weekend have been advised to follow the directions of traffic marshals onsite, who will be helping guide people to the entrance.

A crane is also being installed on the car park next to the Copthorne Building.

As a result, the car park and pedestrian footpaths will be temporarily closed from 18:00 BST on Friday until 17:00 on Sunday.

Patients attending services within the Copthorne Building over the weekend are told to access the building through the Evolution Suite on Evolution Road, where parking is available.
