Hekmat Galmne was sentenced on Friday at Reading Crown Court

A man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after a drive-by shooting on a dual carriageway in broad daylight.

The victim had been riding an e-bike when he was shot on the A41 in Watford in July 2024, but later made a full recovery.

Hekmat Galmne, 27, of Pinner in London, was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He was the latest to be sentenced following a series of violent incidents, including stabbings, in Watford during the summer of 2024.

'Sheer luck'

The shooting followed a disturbance at a park on Meriden Way on 25 July last year.

Two hours later, a shot was fired at the e-bike rider from a black BMW. The victim was taken to hospital and recovered.

Det Insp Mark Butler said: "This was an appalling act of violence committed in broad daylight on a busy stretch of road.

"Galmne showed complete disregard for human life and for the safety of the public. It is only through sheer luck that this incident did not result in a fatality or injure innocent members of the public."
