In pictures: Light show kicks off Dingwall 800 celebrations
Paul CampbellA light show has kicked off Dingwall's year-long celebrations marking 800 years of its royal burgh.
Saturday's Bright Burgh Trail saw colourful lights and archive images projected on to buildings in the town centre.
Royal burgh status was granted by kings and queens and gave towns special rights and privileges around trade. The practice ended in 1975.
Dingwall was created a royal burgh in 1226 under a charter granted by King Alexander ll.
Paul CampbellThe Highland town's early history includes its origins as a Viking power base.
Dingwall's Cromartie car park is believed to be the site of a "thing", the meeting place of a medieval Norse parliament.
Among its myths is that it is believed to be the birthplace of Shakespeare's Macbeth.
Local residents created window displays for the Bright Burgh Trail.
Dingwall 800 event producer Siobhan MacIntyre said: "Thank you to everyone who decorated a window, collected art materials, or joined us to walk the trail.
"You helped fill Dingwall with colour, imagination and community spirit, everything this year is about."
