Plans for the new Eden Project Morecambe were approved by Lancaster councillors last month.

A firm has been appointed to build a £100m Eden Project in a seaside town.

VINCI Building has been hired as the main contractor for the Morecambe, Lancashire project's construction.

The new Eden Project will open fully in 2028, and feature landscaped gardens inspired by the coast, and two shell-shaped domes.

Project director John Pye said the appointment marks "an exciting acceleration" for the project, adding: "This is a nationally significant project for Morecambe and for the region and this latest milestone brings us another step closer to realising that vision."

The Eden Project Morecambe will celebrate the "beauty, ecology and heritage of Morecambe Bay", project organisers have said.

They added it would include two striking, shell‑inspired superstructures housing immersive "realms" exploring humanity's relationship with the natural world.

Eden Project Morecambe is being delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster University.

The project is also being supported by UK Government investment.

"We are delighted to be appointed as main contractor for Eden Project Morecambe," VINCI Building regional director Gary Hughes said.

"A landmark scheme with the potential to transform the town, the wider region and the national awareness and perception of Morecambe Bay."

Alongside the main event will be 1.5 acres of free-to-enter community gardens - which are set to open early 2027, ahead of the site's full opening in 2028.

Lancaster City Council leader Caroline Jackson said: "Eden Project Morecambe will bring pivotal opportunities for the future economy of Lancaster district, creating new jobs, supporting skills development and generating long‑term prosperity.

"Today's announcement shows the real progress made since the government funding announcement in 2023 - through collective commitment we are bringing forward an attraction with profound benefits for our communities and the wider region."
