There is "significant debris" in the River Trent after a damaged boat went underwater, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has said.

The fire service was called at about 04:00 GMT on Sunday to Beeston Marina.

The service said the boat was travelling downstream towards Clifton, and the river was "fast-flowing".

At 05:31, a spokesperson said: "We know it's early, but if for any reason you are at the marina in the next few hours, please do not approach the water, avoid entering the water and keep well clear of riverbanks and towpaths."

The fire service said it had left the scene as there was no more action its crews could take.
