A man has died after the Mercedes he was driving crashed into a roundabout.

The collision happened shortly before 07:30 GMT on Sunday between Stoke Hammond and Leighton Buzzard.

Thames Valley Police said the black Mercedes E320 was being driven southbound on the A4146 when it hit the Stoke Road roundabout.

The motorist – a man in his 40s who was alone in the car – died at the scene.

Thames Valley Police said his next of kin had been notified and were being supported by specially trained officers.

PC James Holmes, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said his team's thoughts were with the family and friends at this "extremely difficult time".

"We are appealing for anyone with information or witnesses who may have been at the scene and have not yet spoken to the police, to please get in touch."

He also asked for drivers in the area to review their dashcam footage.
