Record bid to get 1,752 doing the Locomotion
Board of Trustees of the Science MuseumA railway museum is attempting to break the world record for the most people "doing the Locomotion" at a single venue.
The Locomotion Museum and Stockton & Darlington Railway 200 are inviting people to come along to swing their hips to the song at the Shildon venue on 26 February.
The official Guinness World Record guidelines require at least 1,752 people to be dancing together for five minutes.
Record producer and president of Railway Benefit Fund Pete Waterman is supporting the record attempt and said it was an opportunity to "invite more young people to learn more about and be inspired by the rich history" of British rail.
He said: "As a charity, we are committed to supporting the UK rail industry and the incredible people who keep it moving."
Waterman worked with Kylie Minogue to re-release her version of The Locomotion in 1998.

Sarah Price, head of Locomotion museum, said it was a "once in a lifetime opportunity" for the community.
She said: "The thought that Locomotion might soon have its own official Guinness World Records title is amazing.
"We really hope as many people as possible – young, old, dancers and non-dancers, rail enthusiasts and complete newbies – join us to help us achieve this incredible goal."
The current record is held by Shelter Cymru and was achieved at the event Wave for Wales on 24 June 2007.
