More than 60 firefighters have been called to tackle a fire that has ripped through the thatched roof of a cottage.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said a large number of emergency service vehicles attended the blaze on Viables Lane in Basingstoke, Hampshire, at about 16:00 GMT.

Crews are using compressed air foam and jet hoses to extinguish the flames and prevent them spreading further.

A nearby pub has been evacuated and residents have been advised to avoid the area.
