There were long tailbacks and road closures on the A14 after Monday's crash

A man died and another was arrested after a crash on the A14 involving a lorry and a car near the Orwell Bridge.

Emergency services were called at about 09:00 BST on Monday after an accident between junction 56 at the Wherstead interchange and junction 57 for Nacton.

The A14 was shut westbound between junctions 57 and 56, as well as the Orwell Bridge westbound. The eastbound carriageway was closed at junction 57. Everything had reopened by 02:00 on Tuesday.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The collision involved a lorry and a silver Ford S-Max on the westbound carriageway.

A police spokesperson said the driver of the car died at the scene and two passengers were taken to hospital for a check-up, but did not sustain serious injuries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and asking drivers to review dashcam footage.
