The council apologised for the "obvious inconvenience" after the missed collections

A council has apologised after staff sickness and issues with its vehicles hit some residents' garden waste collections.

Reading Borough Council said sorry for the "obvious inconvenience" missed collections throughout February will have had but said it will suspend its green waste collection service until Monday.

It said that will help manage its other collections of residual waste, food waste and recycling.

Anyone who has stored their green waste and still needs it to be collected is asked to put it out for their next scheduled collection from Monday.

The council has said as an "acknowledgement of the disruption" to the service, residents' £75 annual subscriptions will be automatically extended by four weeks.

Their online calendars will be updated to reflect that.

In an email to residents, the council said: "Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the service disruption. We thank you for your continued patience."
