Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council welcomed the rating but recognised it still had areas to improve

Council-run adult social care services in Rotherham have been rated as "good" after their first inspection by a health watchdog.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors visited the town in July 2025 and spoke to staff, stakeholders, partners and focus groups, as well as those who use care services.

It found Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council had a focus on helping to reduce people's long-term dependency on adult social care and to prevent them from being in crisis.

Ian Spicer, council executive director of adult care, housing and public health, welcomed the report but said they "recognise our areas for further improvement".

The authority supported about 4,800 residents with long-term adult social care.

The CQC found residents were positive about their experiences of contact with the council and receiving support.

The report also found the authority had effective systems in place to make sure people were protected from abuse and neglect.

It found some people did not always receive assessments in a timely way, but the authority had been taking action to reduce waiting times.

"Overall, Rotherham Council should be pleased with the positive findings in our report and their good rating," said Chris Badger, chief inspector of adult social care and integrated care at the CQC.

Councillor Joanna Baker-Rogers, cabinet member for adult social care and health at the council, said: "The CQC rating is another testament of all the hard work of our workforce, leadership team and our partners.

"We're investing in services that help residents live well and independently, with the right support at the right time."
