A British woman in Qatar says "doors were shaking" as Iran launched missiles towards the country.

It follows the US and Israel's attack on Iran, which has since targeted neighbouring countries that host American military bases, including Qatar.

Katie Evans, originally from Liverpool, said: "You could hear missiles as they were coming over. The doors were shaking. You could feel it."

She has been working as a school teacher in the capital Doha for six months and was leaving a morning gym class when the Qatari authorities issued a warning to take shelter.

"I didn't know anything else about what was going on," she said.

She made her way to her friend's home as that was the nearest location and saw the news about the attacks in the region.

Sirens were also heard nearby and there have also been concerns about falling debris after explosions.

Katie said she could "see and hear the missiles being shot down" as the attacks were "going on for hours".

Qatar's defence ministry said it "successfully countered a number of attacks targeting the country's territory".

"Everyone was really worried and our employers were getting in touch saying stay safe and to reassure," Katie added.

She remains with four friends - three British and one Kenyan – as they wait for the shelter directive to be lifted.

Speaking to the BBC on Saturday, she added that Doha was "just lovely - an amazing place to live".

"I lived in Oman for five years, I just love this region."
