A couple from Guernsey were charged £800 rather than £8 for entering a charity exhibition.

The error took place at an Eisteddfod Guernsey event, after the wrong price for two tickets was mistakenly entered.

The charity soon launched an appeal, which resulted in success after the impacted couple came forward - and a full refund was issued.

Eisteddfod secretary Barbara Minta said the exhibition had proved popular and was busy at the time the payment was made, but the situation had a positive outcome.

She told BBC Radio Guernsey: "I think there were just so many people in the queue that a digit got incorrectly tapped into the machine and that was it.

"The couple hadn't noticed and when the couple concerned called, I was able to reassure them that all was well with the refund.

"We now know how to do a refund immediately, so if it happens again we can immediately do a refund, although it has to be done by our treasurer for security purposes."
