Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead in Glasgow, five days after he was last seen alive.

Police Scotland said the body of Craig Hamilton was discovered at a property on Drakemire Avenue, Castlemilk, at about 20:10 on Thursday.

Officers confirmed the 42-year-old's death was being treated as murder following a post-mortem examination.

In a statement, his family said: "Craig was much loved by his family and friends and he will be missed."

Det Ch Insp Jennifer McCulloch said Hamilton was last seen on Saturday 28 March.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Drakemire Avenue area in the following days.

She said: "Our thoughts remain with Craig's family and friends at this extremely difficult time, and we are continuing to support them as the investigation progresses.

"Extensive inquiries are ongoing and we have a dedicated team of specialist officers working through all lines of inquiry.

"This includes officers going door to door in the local area, as well as thorough analysis of available CCTV footage."

Det Ch Insp McCulloch urged anyone with information to contact the force or submit information via a dedicated online portal.

Chief Inspector Allistair Macdonald said there would be an increased police presence in the local area in the coming days and asked anyone with concerns to approach officers.
