Man 'fatally stabbed during attempted burglary'

A man was stabbed to death while taking part in an attempted burglary at a mobile home, a court has heard.

Police were called on 25 February 2025 to a chalet off Lodge Lane Industrial Estate in Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, where 22-year-old Taylor Green was found with fatal injuries.

Nottingham Crown Court heard Green, David McCandless, Mason Meanwell and an unidentified fourth man broke into the mobile home of Ethan Arnold, who used a knife that he kept in the bedroom - with Green stabbed twice during the resulting confrontation.

McCandless, 44, of Wright Street in Newark, and 25-year-old Meanwell, of Byron Close, Newark, deny manslaughter.

The court heard Arnold had been in the bedroom of his mobile home with his partner when four men broke through the front door carrying a variety of weapons.

Christopher Donnellan KC, prosecuting, told jurors the location was "very isolated", adding the suspects were seen on CCTV approaching the scene "very stealthily".

After they had "smashed" through the front door, he said the men were shouting "chop him, chop him, get the money" as they stormed into the bedroom.

"They obviously believed that Ethan Arnold had some cash on the premises," he said. "Ethan Arnold thought he was going to be robbed and killed."

The prosecutor told the court Arnold had used a knife that he kept in the bedroom and Green had been stabbed twice during the resulting confrontation, with one injury to the upper part of his left lung described as "unsurvivable".

He explained to jurors the suspected intruders included Green, who he said died at the scene, Meanwell, McCandless, who was also there along with a fourth man currently unidentified.

"These two defendants are charged with [Green's] manslaughter because they engaged in this violent attack on Ethan Arnold in Ethan Arnold's [own] home," he said.

"It doesn't matter whether the [deceased] person was on the opposite side [of the fight] or the same side."

Meanwell has already admitted conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, while McCandless pleaded not guilty when presented with the same charge.

The trial continues.
