Son charged after mum's body found in chest freezer
BBCA woman's body was found in a chest freezer at her home after her GP asked police to carry out a welfare check.
South Wales Police officers discovered the remains of Sylvia Phillips, 89, in Poplar Crescent, in Porthcawl, on 17 February.
It is not known how she died.
Her son Christopher Phillips, 60, from Porthcawl has been charged with preventing a lawful and decent burial.
He also faces a charge of fraud by false representation.
Phillips has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday, 16 April.
The inquest in Pontypridd was told a post-mortem examination was carried out on 2 March by Dr Stephen Leadbetter at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.
The hearing was told the cause of Sylvia Phillips' death "awaited further investigation".
Her family requested a cremation certificate, which was granted by the coroner.
Senior Coroner for South Wales Central Graeme Hughes adjourned the inquest for further investigations to be carried out.
