Revd Sam Hustwayte will be officially appointed in May

The new Archdeacon of Ludlow has been named, and will be appointed at a special service in May.

Revd Sam Hustwayte is currently vicar of St Wilfrid's, Calverton, Area Dean of Gedling and Chair of the House of Clergy in Southwell and Nottingham Diocese.

The Archdeacon of Ludlow is one of two in the Diocese of Hereford, and the role involves supporting clergy and parishes across the Ludlow archdeaconry.

"What I'm really looking forward to as the next Archdeacon of Ludlow is supporting the many parishes of the northern archdeaconry to be a light for Jesus and helping them grow disciples," she said.

Hustwayte grew up in Nottinghamshire and her faith began as a teenager in her local Baptist church.

She studied at Birmingham Bible Institute, and then went on a mission project to Brazil with her boyfriend Matt, who later became her husband.

Upon their return to the UK, the pair moved so that Hustwayte could take on the role of a church and children's worker in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

After realising she wanted to become a vicar, she returned to Nottinghamshire for training and curacy.

It was here she realised that she preferred working in rural areas rather than urban settings - which led her to her role in the Nottinghamshire village of Calverton.

As well as being appointed on 10 May, she will also be welcomed at an evensong service at Hereford Cathedral on 2 June.
