William Blake House owes £1.5m to HMRC and is facing a winding-up order

A government regulator has opened a case into a charity that supports vulnerable adults after it was served with a winding‑up notice.

The Charity Commission said it had been made aware of concerns into William Blake House, a residential care organisation for adults with severe learning difficulties, in Blakesley, Northamptonshire.

The charity owed more than £1.5m to HM Revenue and Customs as of June 2025.

William Blake House said it was unable to comment while the Charity Commission's case was ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Charity Commission said: "We are aware of potential governance concerns at William Blake House and have opened a regulatory compliance case to engage with the charity's trustees about these matters."

Speaking in the House of Commons last month, South Northamptonshire Conservative MP Sarah Bool raised concerns on behalf of families.

She said: "The families have had no notice of any of this, no consultation. They're naturally worried about what the provisions will be in place for their loved ones."
