Development plan approved for Cannock
BBCA local authority has officially adopted its latest planning strategy, setting out where housing and amenities could be built in the coming years.
Cannock Chase Council's Local Plan 2018–2040 was formally approved earlier this week, marking the completion of a seven-year project to finalise the document.
It means the district can now demonstrate a five-year housing land supply for the first time since 2023.
It would also provide more options to prevent speculative development, bosses said, and helped the district avoid increased housing targets.
"The adopted local plan gives us a clear and sustainable direction through to 2040," said Garry Samuels, portfolio leader for regeneration and high streets.
"It ensures that development goes in the most appropriate locations, supports employment and investment, safeguards our remaining green belt, and protects our natural, cultural and historic assets.
"It also helps us take meaningful steps towards responding to climate change."
The plan comprises input from developers, neighbouring authorities, residents, businesses and local organisations.
"Thanks to this shared effort, we have a strong plan that puts well planned, infrastructure led development at the forefront and meets the needs of our district," Samuels added.
