A dog has been rescued after falling through an overhanging ledge of snow and spending a wintry night out on a mountain in the Highlands.

Aggie was one of five dogs that got into difficulty on Sunday while on a hike with four walkers close to the 3,061ft (933m) summit of Fionn Bheinn, near Achnasheen.

Four of the dogs were rescued after they fell through the cornice, but Aggie could not be found after landing in Coire Toll Mhor, a large hollow below the summit.

Three members of Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team, along with the spaniel's owner and a local deer stalker, made a search the following morning when she was found and rescued.

One of the mountain rescue volunteers was lowered by rope into the coire to reach Aggie.

The team said she was a little cold but "none the worse" after her night high on the mountain in snowy conditions.

Team leader Iain Nesbitt said the incident highlighted the risks posed by cornices.

The ledges of snow form in strong winds and overhang the edges of steep slopes and can be difficult to spot.
