More details about a planned new leisure centre have been unveiled.

It was revealed by Brighton & Hove City Council in 2024 that it intended to tear down and replace the King Alfred Leisure Centre, in Hove, East Sussex.

Then last month it said if the scheme was approved the authority wanted to start work this year, with the new facility open by 2028.

Now the authority has said it will have a bigger teaching pool, a main pool with eight lanes rather than six, and a larger gym with more equipment.

There will also be, the council said, a six-court sports hall which was bigger than the two current sports halls, as well as a community room, and a more spacious cafe with sea views.

The council said meeting the needs of families and young children was "a driving principle" behind the project.

The council's sports and recreation member, Alan Robins, said: "The new facility will provide a better experience for people in the city.

"There will be more space for sport and activities, more variety on offer and a more inclusive experience for all."
