Man who raped woman after offering a lift jailed
West Yorkshire PoliceA rapist who attacked a woman after offering her a lift home has been jailed for 15 years.
Ethan Hare met the victim in Mirfield during the early hours of 11 May last year.
After offering her a lift he seriously sexually assaulted the woman before releasing her at a petrol station in Huddersfield and driving off, West Yorkshire Police said.
The 40-year-old from Halifax was found guilty of two counts of rape following a three-day trial at Leeds Crown Court in October and was sentenced at the same court earlier.
Hare was tracked down and arrested within hours of the offence after the woman contacted police.
Det Con Charlotte Pugh said Hare had put his victim through a "terrifying ordeal".
She said: "Her courage in coming forward on that night and reporting what took place, allowed us to rapidly start hunting for and arrest Hare within a few hours of the offence occurring.
"This dangerous man was charged and remanded in custody within 24 hours, meaning he has never been back on the streets from the moment he was first detained by officers."
