Evacuation after hazardous material spilled at industrial site

Several people have been evacuated at an industrial estate in West Lothian after a "potentially hazardous material" was spilled.

Emergency crews attended a premises at Houstoun Industrial Estate in Livingston at about 08:50, with people urged to avoid the area.

Police Scotland said the incident was contained and there was no wider risk.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said there were no casualties and crews remained on scene.

A spokesperson said: "Operations control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources."

Road closures were put in place from the Houstoun Road Interchange to Nettlehill Road, Firth Road and Grange Road, but later reopened.

Police Scotland said "a number of people" were evacuated as a precaution.

A spokesperson added: "The incident was contained and there was no risk to the public. Members of the public are thanked for their patience."
