Drivers warned over QR code pay-and-display scam
Nottinghamshire County CouncilResidents have been warned about a pay-and-display scam circulating in Nottinghamshire.
Fraudsters have been sticking illegitimate QR code stickers on pay-and-display machines, taking customers to a fake parking payment website, Nottinghamshire County Council said.
The authority said it was aware of the "ongoing" scam, with a recent incident taking place in West Bridgford.
Council officers have been removing the stickers, but warned some people may have "already fallen victim".
In a post on Facebook, the authority said: "Unfortunately, it's quite a successful scam and looks fairly legitimate to people who aren't frequent users of pay-by-phone services.
"This has now happened to our own machines that are in West Bridgford.
"The civil enforcement officers caught this early [on Friday] and are removing them, but customers may have already fallen victim."
Anyone who spots a scam QR code has been asked to contact the council.
The council also advised customers who might have lost funds to the scam to contact their bank's fraud team.
