Leigh Crossroads, near Bradford-on-Avon, will be closed for safety upgrades

A major crossroads will close overnight to allow for roadworks aimed at improving the junction for pedestrians.

Leigh Crossroads, at the junction of the B3105 and B3109 north of Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire, will be shut overnight between 9 and 20 March.

The area will be closed from 19:00 and 06:00 GMT for resurfacing works, with traffic light upgrades planned to take place between 09:30 and 15:30 while the road is open.

Councillor Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council's cabinet member for highways, said the traffic signals had "reached the end of their design life".

Temporary multi-way traffic lights and temporary pedestrian crossings will be in place throughout the works.

Wiltshire Council warned that factors such as bad weather or extra repairs could see the closure period extended.

"By carrying out this work alongside the resurfacing, we will avoid repeated disruption for residents, making the process more efficient," Smith added.

"These improvements at Leigh Crossroads will make the junction safer, more reliable, and better for everyone who uses it."
