Stratford-on-Avon District Council had the highest household recycling rate in England in 2024-2025, according to government figures.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said the authority had a 63.9% recycling rate, jumping up two places in the league table from the previous year.

Julie Lewis, head of environmental and neighborhood services at the council, said the district's success was testament to its residents and their commitment to recycling.

"We would like to thank our residents and our continued successful partnership with waste collection contractor Biffa Waste Services Ltd, alongside the hard work of our council officers for this milestone," she added.

Lewis also thanked Sherbourne Recycling facility where all the district's household recycling was processed.

The facility was "continually evolving" and had the capability to adapt to new materials over time, she added, helping to ensure recycling services remained efficient.

Other authorities in the league table include Milton Keynes Council in second place with a recycling rate of 63.2% and South Oxfordshire District Council third with 61.3%.

A spokesperson for Defra added that Stratford-on-Avon District Council also had an average household recycling rate of 60% over the past five years.
