Man stabbed housemate with fishing knife
Leicestershire PoliceA man has been jailed after stabbing his housemate in the back with a fishing knife in Leicester.
Leicestershire Police said it was called to Danvers Road by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 10:25 BST on 17 August after a man in his 20s was taken to hospital and suffered injuries to his liver, kidney and diaphragm.
Lonel Cutitaru, of Danvers Road, was initially charged with attempted murder but, after a trial at Leicester Crown Court, was found guilty of an alternative offence of wounding with intent.
On Monday, the 49-year-old was jailed for seven years and six months. He must also pay a £228 victim surcharge.
The force said Cutitaru was still at the property when officers arrived and was subsequently arrested.
In interview, he said he had been involved in an argument with the victim and another man living at the house of multiple occupancy.
Det Con Olivia Palmer, from Leicestershire Police, said: "This was an incident that could've had far more serious consequences and the victim is lucky to be alive.
"Though it was an isolated incident involving people known to one another, it does not excuse the fact that carrying a knife is something which will not be tolerated."
