Lancashire PoliceA man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed multiple times at a crematorium.
The woman, in her 30s, suffered multiple stab wounds during the attack at Carleton Crematorium, in Poulton-le-Flyde, Blackpool, at about 18:45 BST on Tuesday.
She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later sent home.
A man in his 30s was arrested a short time later on nearby Low Moor Road on suspicion of attempted murder. Police said the victim and the suspect were known to one another and the arrested man remained in custody for questioning.
Det Insp Chris Hammond, of Blackpool Police, said: "This assault left the victim with a number of injuries, and it is only a matter of good fortune that she wasn't more seriously hurt or even killed.
"Whilst we have made an arrest our enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who can help to come and speak to us."
Det Insp Hammond said officers were especially keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who had any CCTV or dashcam footage of it.
"We have a team of detectives working on this inquiry and people may see us out and about today as we go about our work. If you have any information or concerns, please feel free to approach and speak to us," he added.
