A large fire at a scrap metal yard has burned overnight after loud explosions were heard.

As many as 40 firefighters and eight fire-engines attended the blaze at Deep Pit Road in Speedwell, Bristol, at 23:00 BST on Sunday.

Videos were shared on social media showing flames visible from miles around and residents also reported hearing explosions.

The fire has now been put out without any casualties after firefighters managed to keep it from spreading to nearby offices and homes.

A security guard from one of the offices next door to the scrap yard said the large flames and explosions were "really dramatic" and a "sight to behold".

Police officers attended the scene to close the surrounding roads.

On Monday morning, firefighters were preparing to leave after putting out the flames.

The site of the blaze is near to the Strachan and Henshaw building which caught fire in 2018.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The cause of the fire is unknown.

"Thankfully, there were no casualties."
