A former care home site could be redeveloped to provide affordable homes.

The social landlord Your Housing Group is seeking permission for 18 properties on Well Street in Cheadle, Staffordshire.

Permission was granted to knock the building down more than a decade ago and the new proposals would involve six "cottage-style flats", five three-bedroom homes and seven two-bedroom homes.

An application submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council noted the land had been unused for some time and said: "This application aims to make use of the derelict land, create high quality housing and increase the street appeal."

The application also pointed out permission had previously been granted for 17 homes on the site, but construction was never completed.

It said the 18 new dwellings would "significantly benefit the site and the area".
