Five taken to hospital after 12-vehicle crash on M73
GoogleFive people, including two children, have been taken to hospital after a 12-vehicle crash on the M73 in North Lanarkshire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent four fire engines and a heavy rescue unit to the scene near Gartcosh just before midnight.
Two people were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, two to the Royal Hospital for Children and the firth went to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Police Scotland said all five were taken to hospital "as a precaution". Three others were also treated at the scene.
The road was closed northbound between Junction 2 Baillieston and Junction 2a Gartcosh.
The SFRS said they received the report of the crash at 23:58 on Sunday.
A spokesperson added: "A number of casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service who transported them to hospital.
"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."
The Scottish Ambulance Service said six ambulances and two special operations attended.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The road reopened around 03:30. There is no further police action."
