A mountain rescue team was called to a residential street in Derbyshire to help a person who had slipped on ice and suffered a suspected fractured neck.

On Tuesday night, 14 volunteers from Buxton Mountain Rescue Team in Derbyshire were called to the Fairfield area of the town, where a casualty had slipped on ice.

After giving the patient pain relief, they were also treated for mild hypothermia.

The casualty was placed on a stretcher and monitored before being handed over to East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and taken to hospital.

Rescue team members who were on the scene for about two hours thanked residents for their assistance.

The incident was the second of the day for the team, after a walker slipped on ice above Derbyshire Bridge, west of Buxton.

The walker suffered a fractured left leg and was splinted and given pain relief.

They were then stretchered along snowbound roads to a waiting EMAS ambulance at the Cat and Fiddle pub to be taken to hospital.
