Police have launched an investigation following a blaze in the doorway to a town centre flat.

Sussex Police said the fire began at the flat in Endwell Road, Bexhill, just before 22:00 BST on Friday.

Two people in the building escaped without injury but were checked over by paramedics at the scene, officers said.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engines attended and "swiftly" put out the flames.

Sussex Police has urged witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

The force initially stated that the fire affected a barber shop next door, but has since confirmed this was not the case.
