Fire crews are tackling a blaze for the second time in a year at a scrapyard near homes and a retail park.

Smoke could be seen rising above the J Davidson site in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, after the fire broke out about 14:40 GMT. There have been no reports of injuries.

A large fire tore through the site in March last year, burning many vehicles.

In a social media post, local councillor Ulrich Savary said it was the "second time in less than 12 months that residents have had to endure a fire at Davidson".

He said: "While we do not yet know the cause of this fire, I sincerely hope that no one has been injured.

"Residents living nearby are understandably concerned about the business and want the council to act."

Savary said he had asked Trafford Council to contact the owners "several times and will do so again on Monday".

The scrapyard is situated next to Altrincham Retail Park.

The BBC has contacted the firm and the council for a response.

A man in his 40s died at the scrapyard in September, prompting an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive.
