A man in his 20s has died following a crash on a guided busway.

Bedfordshire Police said it was called at about 01:18 GMT to reports of an injured man, following the collision in Telford Way, Luton, on the route that links the town with Dunstable.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was later pronounced dead.

Det Sgt Shona Searle said it was a "deeply tragic incident" and the force's thoughts were with the victim's family and friends.

Arriva Bedfordshire had earlier closed the service in both directions between Luton Interchange and Chaul End Lane.

Searle said: "It is crucial that we establish the circumstances that led to what we believe was a collision between a guided bus and the victim."

She appealed for anyone who was in the area between 00:50 and 01:15, and who might have witnessed something or captured anything on dashcam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to quote Operation Loughton.
