Police are investigating the "unexplained" death of a man after a fire at a block of flats near Glasgow city centre.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent six fire engines to the incident on Carnoustie Street in the Tradeston area at about 18:30 on Tuesday.

The blaze was extinguished and the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The fire comes days after the closure of Glasgow's Central Station, after flames spread from a vape shop through a B-listed Victorian building next door.

SFRS area Commander Andy Kenna said: "Firefighters worked to extinguish a fire affecting a flat in a six-storey building.

"One adult male sadly passed away. Our thoughts are very much with their family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.

"A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland is ongoing."

Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing and a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
