Man accused of trying to rape two women in city
Getty ImagesA 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to rape of two women in Birmingham city centre in attacks just minutes apart.
The first woman was targeted on Church Street, between Colmore Row and Edmund Street, at about 00:50 GMT on Friday.
A member of the public helped the woman to safety and she was able to call police, the West Midlands force said.
At about 01:00 GMT a second woman was attacked in nearby Newhall Street but managed to escape after members of the public stepped in.
The suspect remains in custody, police said.
Det Insp Matthew Owen called on anyone who may have information on the "terrifying attacks" to get in touch.
"We'd also like to hear from motorists including taxi drivers who may have been in the area at the time and who saw anything or may have dashcam footage."
