Police hunt masked men after teenager shot in leg
GoogleA 17-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was shot in the leg in woods in Huddersfield.
The shooting took place on a path behind the Woodlanders FC football pitch off Spaines Road in Birkby at about 21:00 BST on Wednesday, West Yorkshire Police said.
The injured teenager was taken to hospital and later discharged following treatment for a bullet wound.
Police said they wanted to trace two men who were spotted wearing balaclavas behind trees in an alley off nearby Richmond Avenue just before the shooting.
A force spokesperson said the boy had been walking with friends from the direction of the football pitch along the woodland path between 20:20 and 21:00 BST when a suspected firearm was discharged.
He fled the area with friends and was able to call for help outside the library in Fartown, where he was found with a leg injury.
Det Insp Fiona Allan said: "Fortunately, the injury to the victim was not life-threatening but the consequences could clearly have been much worse."
She said officers wanted to speak to anyone who saw two men in balaclavas in the area near the Woodlanders FC football pitch or in the surrounding streets on Wednesday evening or who has information, CCTV or dashcam footage which could help the investigation.
Meanwhile, police said "reassurance patrols" were taking place in the area.
