Library set for £450k refurbishment

An East Yorkshire library is to receive almost half a million pounds in funding for refurbishment.

Goole library, run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will receive £300,000 from the government via the Arts Council, as well as £150,000 match funding from the local authority.

Work is expected to begin in 2027 and will include upgrades to fixtures and fittings, and the creation of new children's areas, the council said.

Councillor Nick Coultish said: "This is fantastic news for Goole library. It will bring huge benefits to the library, helping it to serve as an innovative and accessible community space."

There will also be a public consultation to gather public feedback on the improvements, the council said.

The local authority added it hoped the new approach would increase footfall to the library and provide more learning opportunities for local people.

The facility is holding events throughout 2026, both in the library and upstairs museum, to celebrate Goole's bicentenary.
