Girl, five, taken to hospital after being hit by car at cemetery

A five-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a car at the gates of Kilmarnock Cemetery.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Grassyards Road at about 11:20 on Saturday.

BBC News understands the driver involved in the crash left the scene before police arrived, but was later traced and spoken to by officers.

Sgt Gordon Stewart said inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances and urged any witnesses to come forward.

He added: "I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam or private CCTV that could assist to get in touch."
