Rail services between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich in Suffolk have been disrupted after a train struck a tree that had fallen on to the track.

The train's windscreen was damaged when the 07:45 GMT service from Peterborough to Ipswich hit the tree at 09:30 GMT at Elmswell.

No-one was injured in the incident.

A replacement bus service has been put in place between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich.

A spokesman for National Express East Anglia said the track had been cleared and normal service would resume shortly.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said the bad weather had led to the tree being uprooted.
