Baroness Grey-Thompson: 'Changes needed to benefits plan'

The government must make changes to its plans to replace a series of benefits with a single Universal Credit, according to Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

The Children's Society, Citizens Advice and Disability Rights UK say the proposal could see 100,000 households with children lose up to £28 a week.

The Department of Work and Pensions says the changes will make the system "simpler and fairer".

Baroness Grey-Thompson told BBC Breakfast that some parents had already said they were considering putting their disabled children into residential care because of the debt they would incur under the changes.
