Husband and wife 'putting right' filthy road signs

A husband and wife team behind a Peterborough window cleaning business have taken it upon themselves to bring a sparkle back to dirt and grime-covered road signs in and around the city.

The couple started posting videos of their roadside transformations on social media, much to the delight of a growing number of followers, with the videos played thousands of times.

David Wiles said it was a way of giving something back to the community.

"As we was going by the local sign in Yaxley, we stopped at the traffic lights... it just used to bother me, seeing the grubbiness of it. I just one day thought, I've now got the facility to be able to put that right," he said.

A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: "We follow our highways standards in terms of inspecting and cleaning signs.

"We understand people want to help, which is why we're looking into a new 'highway volunteer scheme'. This would enable volunteers to work on the highway carrying out low-level maintenance tasks. We're aiming to trial this next year."
