Watch: Tourists in Puerto Vallarta react to cartel violence

Tourists and residents described scenes of panic at airports and on the streets of western Mexico on 23 February, after violence erupted across Jalisco state following the death of cartel leader Nemesio 'El Mencho' Oseguera.

Puerto Vallarta's international airport remained quiet on Monday, with Mexico's National Guard patrolling terminals and security forces frisking travelers as airlines moved to restore service.

The Mexican government deployed 2,000 additional soldiers to the state in response to retaliatory attacks from cartels.
