Before setting off Reid Wiseman said he was bringing a small notepad with him so that he can jot down his thoughts during the mission.

Christina Koch has handwritten notes from people close to her, which she said give her a "tactile connection" to her loved ones back on Earth.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen said he was taking four Moon-shaped pendants to represent his wife and three children, which have been engraved with the phrase "Moon and back" and set with their birthstones.

He also said he was taking maple syrup and maple cookies along for a snack on his lunar journey.

Victor Glover said he was taking a Bible, his wedding ring and family heirlooms with him on the trip, along with a collection of inspirational quotes put together by Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart.
