For the very first time, take a look at the Gruffalo's granny, the newest (and oldest) member of the Gruffalo family.

Announced by the book's author, Julia Donaldson - there's a new pair of knobbly knees padding through the deep dark wood.

Following on from The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child, the latest story will introduce Granny, a brand-new character who joins the Gruffalo family – along with familiar faces Fox, Snake, Owl, and of course, the clever and courageous Mouse.

The new adventure will once again be illustrated by the original artist Axel Scheffler, bringing granny Gruffalo to life for the very first time.

Julia Donaldson told the BBC, "I've had this idea for two decades but I've just been so busy writing other things... and now I'm a granny myself maybe that's what spurred me on."

You probably read these stories when you were younger - so can you guess what the story might be? Let us know your ideas and thoughts on the Gruffalo granny in the comments below.

Julia Donaldson said she was "delighted" Axel worked alongside her again.

"I've been saying for 20 years there won't be a sequel... It was a complete surprise for me but Julia came up with such a wonderful story, that I got very excited about it," the artist said.

The very first Gruffalo picture book, published in 1999, follows a small mouse who outsmarts a string of hungry animals in the "deep dark wood".

The second story, released in 2004, continues the tale with the Gruffalo's Child heading off on her own adventure and learning about the world.

Together, the two books have sold more than 18 million copies and have been translated into 115 languages and dialects – that's a lot of claws, paws and whiskers around the world.

We'll have to wait until the book comes out on 10 September, 2026, to find out what happens next.
