National Science Week in Norfolk Libraries is launched with an exciting and fun chemistry demonstration to local school children.

Saturday 13 March 10am - 4pm
Science activities for the family in the Forum.

Sunday 14 March 10.30am - 4.30pm
Craft activities in the children's library. Come and create a paper garden. Make your favourite flowers, birds or creepy crawlies and have them displayed in their 'garden'.

Tuesday 16 March 9am - 3pm
Our world - day of nature and science for children aged 7 - 11 years. Local schools will take part in a day of displays and activities organised by local organisations, including the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, the Sea Life Centre at Great Yarmouth and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. SoundWorks, the exhibition for schools will be there, courtesy of the Norfolk Exchange. Everyone is welcome.

Wednesday 17 March 2-2.30pm
Tiny Tots - you and your world, stories and songs for the under 2's

Thursday 18 March 10am - 3pm
Soil sampling at the library. Gardeners get your garden soil pH tested by the experts from Sprowston High School. Just bring in a small sample of dried soil and the students will do the rest.

Friday 19 March 10.30am
A science special Bear Club story time for pre-school age children.

Also in the library:

National Wildlife Trust
The Trust are going to be there with their hi-tech trailer with fascinating natural objects to look at and loads to learn from the computer. There will be activity sheets, a quiz and wacky wildlife facts.

Sea Life Centre at Great Yarmouth
They will bring live sharks eggs i.e. mermaid's purses in a tank and hands-on activities for the children. Work from the sharks project that children from Easton Primary School did with the Sea Life Centre will be on display in the children's library during the week.

RSPB
They will be dissecting owl pellets with small groups of school children. The SoundWorks exhibition, with hands-on activities will be in the library, courtesy of the Norfolk Exchange.

The library bug trail
The trail will be at Earlham library throughout National Science Week. Try to complete the simple quiz to get your very own logo bug.

Science Centres in the UK
The library has collected a host of material and information from science museums up and down the country. The display, entitled Science Centres in the UK: where you can go and enjoy Science, will be up in the library throughout National Science Week.

Tuesday 16 March, at 2.30 pm
An illustrated talk called Changing Views of the Moon by Michael Bean will take place in the Lecture Hall. All are welcome to this free talk.

Soil sampling
On Thursday 18 March Hellesdon High School are sending students along to the library to do pH soil sampling tests for all the keen gardeners of Hellesdon. Between 10am-12pm and 2pm -4pm.

Science Experiments
From Saturday 20 March try your hand at some very simple experiments from every day life - detect different smells, explore your sense of touch and more. Activities suitable for children aged 5-11 years. From 10.30am-12pm.

The Norfolk Wildlife Trust
A trailer for the Norfolk Wildlife Trust will be parked next to Martham library on Friday 19 March and open to the public from 2pm. The library will have a display of Norfolk Wildlife Trust materials from the beginning of March.

Spaghetti and Marshmallows
Tuesday 16 March Year 7 pupils from Catton Grove Middle School will visit Mile Cross Library for some unusual experiments involving spaghetti and marshmallows. Throughout the week science work from Catton Grove Middle School will be on display in the library. Please note the library is closed to the public on Tuesday morning.

Science Display
Year 7 students at Reepham High School host an amazing display. The display, called Work on Cells, will be accompanied by a quiz which the school has compiled for the library and a display of science books.

In the Mix
On Monday 15 March, 10-11am a fun and exciting chemistry demonstration from Ross Morley of Notre Dame High School, will be shown to pupils from Sprowston Middle School. Please note the library is closed to the public on Mondays.

Wildlife Picture Quiz
Identify the animal in the picture and unscramble the letters of its name. There will be a small prize for the first name out of the hat. The draw to take place at 12 noon on Saturday 20 March in the library. Open to children under 12 years.

Rosemary Musker High School will be at the library on Monday 15 March at 1.45-2.45pm to read poems and perform rap about Archimedes.

A display of the school's project on Archimedes will be up in the library from the previous Wednesday. The performance will be open to the public, during normal library opening hours.

There will be a display from Little Plumstead Primary School in the library throughout the week. Pupils from St John's Junior school in Hoveton will bring in working models of gadgets and machines that they have made.
