How to get there

We've all the travel information you need to make sure your journey to the Great Yorkshire Show goes as smoothly as possible. For regular updates tune into BBC Radio York on 104.3 , 103.7 or 95.5 FM.

The organisers of this year's Great Yorkshire Show are urging visitors to consider alternatives to driving to the event.

The Great Yorkshire Showground is situated on the south side of Harrogate, on the A661 Wetherby Road. It is one and a half miles from the junction of the A658 and A661 next to Sainsbury's Supermarket.

By train

Trains run every half hour between Leeds and every hour between York and Harrogate.

Free shuttle bus

A free shuttle bus service to and from the Showground will be available from Harrogate bus station (next to the railway station) and from Hornbeam Park station - commencing daily at 7.30am until the show closes.

Car sharing

Why not try and share your journey with a neighbour, friend or member of the family. If you live in Harrogate maybe you could walk, catch the bus to the Showground, or why not cycle? There is a free cycle park on site.

By car

If the only way you can get to the show is by car, then here is the information you need...

Car parks open daily at 6am and are free. Allow additional travelling time to the Show as all routes are very busy between 8.00am and 11.00am. For regular travel updates tune into BBC Radio York on 104.3 , 103.7 or 95.5 FM.

Blue Route - from the North including Durham and Teesside

  • Leave the A1(M) at junction 47 (Allerton Park) onto the A59.
  • Follow the signs for the show towards Knaresborough and Harrogate.
  • Alternative routes (without show signs) - Leave the A1 at its junction with the A61 and follow to Harrogate or leave the A1(M) at junction 48 and follow signs for Knaresborough and Harrogate on the A6055.

Orange Route - from Leeds, Bradford and Otley

  • Follow the directions for the show on both A61 and the A658.
  • Follow the A658 Harrogate bypass towards York and Wetherby.
  • Alternative route (without show signs) - At the junction of the A61/A658 follow the A61 into Harrogate and turn right onto Hookstone Drive.

Green route - from the south along the A1(M)

  • Leave the A1(M) at junction 46 north at Wetherby.
  • Travel along the B1224 towards Wetherby.
  • At the roundabout visitors should turn right onto the A168 following the signs from the show towards Walshford.
  • Turn left towards Little Ribston.
  • Turn right onto the B6164 towards Knaresborough.
  • Turn right onto the A658 towards Harrogate.
  • NB The A1M is being upgraded between junctions 45 and 46 and there will be no access to Wetherby from the motorway. The A661 is not a designated route to the Show and there will be no access from this direction.

Purple route - local visitors using A661 through Spofforth

  • Follow the show direction signs in Spofforth towards Follifoot along Haggs Road to the A658 and follow the signs for the show.
  • The purple route merges with the Orange route at this point.
  • NB Traffic on the A661 from Spofforth towards Harrogate will be diverted at the Kestrel roundabout towards Pannal and visitors will not be able to access the one way system towards the Showground.

Red route - from the East Coast, York and East Yorkshire

  • Follow the show direction signs on the A64.
  • Join the A1(M) at junction 45 and travel north.
  • Follow the directions for the Green route outlined above.
  • Alternative routes (without show signs) - From the A64 or the A59 follow the York outer ring road. At the junction of the B1224 follow the road towards Rufforth and Wetherby. At the junction with the A1(M) follow the directions for the Green route. Show traffic should avoid Wetherby town centre. From the A59 at Green Hammerton turn right onto the B6265 to Boroughbridge. Follow the A6055 to Knaresborough and Harrogate.
  • NB The A59 from York to Harrogate should be avoided as delays can be expected at the junction of the A59 and the A1(M) at Allerton Park between 7.30am and 11.30am.

Yellow route - from Skipton and Lancashire

  • From the A59 turn right at the roundabout junction B6161 (The Travellers Rest Public House) 2 miles west of Harrogate.
  • Follow the show signs to Beckwithshaw and Harrogate.
  • Turn left towards Harrogate on the B6162 at Beckwithshaw.

Disabled parking

  • Sainsbury's car park off Wetherby Road (A661) is the designated car park for disabled visitors.
  • Great Yorkshire Show disabled parking labels or Local Authority permits should be clearly visible.
  • Access is for registered disabled drivers or their helpers only.
  • Parking spaces cannot be reserved in advance.
  • Great Yorkshire Show disabled parking labels can be obtained in advance from the show office on 01423 541222.
