It's 1974 and Alison is studying for her 'A' Levels.

To make a bit of money, she cooks for friends of her mother when they have dinner parties.

This is how she meets Mia who is glamorous and beautiful - just the sort of woman Alison thinks she'd like to become.

But it isn't long before she discovers that Mia's life is really quite superficial and that beneath the façade lurks unhappiness.
