Naïssam Jalal’s 4/4
From Monday to Thursday, Soweto is joined by French-Syrian flautist Naïssam Jalal who has four favourite jazz albums to share.
‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades.
This week, Soweto’s guest is award-winning French-Syrian flautist and composer Naïssam Jalal. Each project she releases draws on personal memories, encounters and influences from different cultures, delivered with Naïssam’s distinctive and compelling sound. Previous albums have featured artists including saxophone colossus Archie Shepp and Hamid Drake, and Naïssam's new album Landscapes of Eternity, inspired by Hindustani tradition, features several Indian classical musicians.
From Monday to Thursday, Naïssam is sharing some of the albums that have shaped her musical journey so far. To begin, she chooses a record by master saxophonist that helped introduce her to the world of jazz.
There is also music from Sylvie & Ursula, SwanNek, and Bobbi Humphrey.
